Road trip

I know I haven't been a good blogger lately. Things have been going crazy right now, and the weather's been wonky. It's supposed to be summer here in the Philippines, but instead, it's been raining like it's July/August.

Anywho, this isn't really an "update", more of, posting-some-pictures-from-two-weeks-ago-update. Teehee.

The Philippines is a predominantly Catholic country, and because of that, we celebrate what's known as the Holy Week. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are considered holidays so that the people could observe Christ's death.

There are diffrent ways in "observing" the Holy Week. Some go to a pabasa, and hold some sort of vigil while telling the Passion of Christ through singing.

Others do the visita Iglesia or visiting different Churches. And that's what we sort of did.

My family went on a little road trip and took the "back road" going to Laguna, instead of using the South Luzon Express Highway. It was fun, and the scenery was much more calming than the usual busy roads. It really felt like we were doing a cross-country trip.

Here are some snap shots.

a house on top of the hill. literally.

during a lunch stop at Kawayan Farm (Bamboo Farm). A kid wanted me to take a picture of her and her dog Gizmo who's wearing shoes.

The last stop, aka the only church we went to.

A painting inside.

I have to admit. It freaked me out.

Paete is known for excellent craftsmanship, especially in wood carvings. And the Poon (or statues/images of saints, Christ, etc.) are no exception.

And some of their Poons are centuries old.

Some church details.

Endless rice fields. My brother and I were joking that this could rival Window's default desktop.

This was on our way home. We stopped by some roadside vendors because my dad wanted to buy a duyan (hammock), but to no avail. Instead we bought coal (really cheap, btw. Php 100 for a sack, that's approx. $2) and some local honey.
